More and more people choose veneers, and they do this for both functional and aesthetic reasons. If you have teeth that, for example, have been affected by corrosion, you can place veneers on them and get a new smile again. The same thing if you suffer from yellow, discolored teeth: veneers avoid that problem. But how long do shell facades last?
Veneers have become a popular option for people who want white, fresh teeth. Rather than carrying out teeth whitening, a more permanent treatment is chosen in the form of veneers. This means visiting a dentist who grinds down the teeth and where the veneers are then cemented in place. Something that, depending on the material and depending on the dentist who carried out the treatment - can last up to 25 years. Veneers can also be used to hide cracks in the teeth or to hide teeth that have been knocked out.
Resin veneers - a cheaper alternative
Looking at materials, there are two to choose from. On the one hand there are shell facades made of plastic and on the other hand there are facades made of porcelain. The difference between these concerns both lifespan and price. Plastic facades are significantly cheaper - a cost between SEK 800 and 2000 is reasonable - and they also have an advantage in that they are manufactured on site. If you choose plastic veneers, the dentist will remove them - by attaching layer upon layer to the tooth - on the same day, and thus only one sitting is required. A sitting that can take some time, however.
The lifespan of resin facades is the negative: they last between 2-5 years. However, the result is pleasing and there is no visible difference between plastic veneers and your ordinary teeth. A good option, but where the negative must be taken into account. A low price and a short lifespan can in the long run mean that the costs become very high. Therefore, porcelain facades may be a better alternative.
Veneers made of porcelain - more expensive, but longer life
If you choose veneers made of porcelain, these are manufactured by a dental technician. It takes a week or so and where you first start from the size and shape of the ordinary teeth and according to your wishes regarding color and shade. In the meantime, you often get temporary facades.
The price for porcelain veneers is high. If it is a matter of several teeth, the cost can therefore be quite substantial. However, the high cost must be compared to the long service life: shell facades made of porcelain can last up to 25 years. This, in combination with a perfect, aesthetic result, should be considered.
An advantage of veneers, regardless of plastic or porcelain, is that they are not discolored by, for example, coffee, tea, cigarettes or red wine: they are consistently white and fresh. If you have issues with the aesthetics of your smile, please speak with your dentist about veneers, as they are a great solution for straightening, whitening, and improving the overall look and feel of your teeth.
