Implant Supported Bridges
815 Dental Studio

Implant supported bridges are designed to fill a gap between two teeth like traditional bridges. Instead of being supported by dental crowns or a framework placed on the adjoining teeth, implant supported bridges are supported by tiny titanium posts surgically placed in your jawbone. These posts will function as replacement roots. The number of posts required will depend on the length of the bridge.

Dr. Anthony and the entire, hand-selected staff at 815 Dental Studio focus on bringing beautiful and healthy smiles to every family we get the opportunity to work with. If you are interested in learning more about the benefits of an implant supported dental bridge for yourself, our phone number is 815-229-1110, and you can find us at 1574 South Bell Road, Cherry Valley, IL, 61016. 815 Dental Studio has built an amazing team providing superb dental services in a relaxing environment.

For a traditional dental bridge, the artificial tooth or teeth are attached to two dental crowns, one on each side and these crowns are placed on the adjoining natural teeth to support the bridge. If crowns are not used, then a metal framework is designed to attach to the abutment teeth. An implant supported bridge does not need these abutment teeth for support. The artificial teeth are supported by a dental implant. The dental implant is surgically placed into your jawbone in the gap. If the jawbone mass is not dense enough to properly support the dental implant, a bone grafting procedure prior to the implant procedure will provide the adequate integrity. The restorative bridge is then attached to abutments, which are small connectors to reach the gum surface.

The Implant Supported Bridge Procedure

An implant-supported bridge will require several steps, which can take six months for completion. After the initial evaluation at 815 Dental Studio has confirmed that we have sufficient bone density for success, we will surgically place the dental implants into the jawbone of the tooth loss. Following this surgery, the jawbone needs adequate time to bond, fuse, and grow with the implants in a process called osseointegration. This step will take several months.

Once the osseointegration is successful, the next step is to attach abutments, or small extensions, to the implants, to reach the gumline surface. The gums will need about two weeks to heal.

The last step of your implant supported bridge is the placement of your custom designed restoration onto these implant extensions. A permanent adhesive will be used to secure the dental bridge, with the artificial crowns, to the abutment posts. This reinforces your new implant supported bridge so that it is now a natural and permanent part of your smile.

With good, continued preventative oral hygiene care at-home and keeping your consistent dental exams and checkups every six months with 815 Dental Studio, your implant supported bridge will have a life expectancy of decades, and you can smile naturally, confidently and eat food you enjoy. Your healthy smile is restored, you have no stability issues with biting, chewing, or speaking, and the artificial root maintains a healthy density of your jawbone so you will not experience any sagging with your facial structure.

Benefits of Implant Supported Bridges

The benefits of replacing missing teeth with an implant supported bridge include:

  • Improved oral health – With the pressure stimulation from the titanium implant post functioning as an artificial root, your implant supported bridge will help you maintain natural and healthy gum tissue volume and jawbone density, which means your face and your smile will continue to be healthy and functional.
  • No hassle – There are no disruptions in the appearance and functionality of your healthy smile or how you care for your teeth daily. You can continue to normally brush and floss, enjoy all your favorite foods, and smile and talk with confidence.
  • Long lasting – Once permanently placed, your implant supported bridge has the potential to last a lifetime. This is much longer than traditional bridges, which usually need to be replaced every 10 years.

An implant supported bridge leaves your neighboring teeth in their natural condition. The two adjoining teeth do not need to undergo any prep work to support the artificial crowns. The dental implants, acting as artificial roots, will hold your bridge securely so that it functions and feels like your natural teeth. This artificial tooth root also stimulates the jaw to maintain density and prevent jawbone atrophy.

Are You a Candidate for an Implant Supported Bridge?

Many patients qualify to have a single dental implant at 815 Dental Studio. An implant-supported bridge usually requires a second implant, so we need to confirm there is adequate bone density. We will examine thoroughly and take digital X-rays before we start the procedure.

Your implant supported bridge will still need proper oral hygiene. Your implant supported bridge is a permanent restoration that needs to be cleaned daily just like your natural teeth. Without being attached to the two adjoining teeth, you can easily floss daily, and the artificial teeth will need to be brushed also. Regular exams and checkups every six months with 815 Dental Studio are strongly encouraged as well.
