Implant Supported Dentures
815 Dental Studio
An implant supported denture is a restorative solution that is the result of technological advancements. A traditional denture sits on your gums and is held in place with a dental adhesive. An implant supported denture can now be your restoration if you need to replace your teeth on an arch and have adequate jawbone density to successfully support the implants. An implant supported denture is designed with special clips that snap onto the implant posts for stability.Â

If you are interested in learning more about the benefits of implant supported dentures for yourself, our phone number is 815-229-1110 and you can find us at 1574 South Bell Road, Cherry Valley, IL, 61016. 815 Dental Studio has developed an elite team offering superb dental services in an astonishing and relaxing environment.Â
We can create an implant supported denture for either your upper or lower jaw. It will still be best to remove your implant supported denture every evening to clean them and the gums beneath. You should not sleep with the implant supported dentures in. You may want to consider permanent crown and bridgework that cannot be removed. Your team at 815 Dental Studio will discuss your preferences when we review your options with you.
The Procedure for Implant Supported Dentures
At your initial exam, the detail-focused team at 815 Dental Studio will review your medical and dental history, take necessary X-rays, and then create impressions of any teeth or gums so that models can be made. We might even use a computed tomography (CT) 3D scan of your mouth. This shows us the location of your sinuses and nerves above your upper arch. A CT scan can also be done to confirm the jawbone density and mass and to pinpoint the exact locations for each implant. If you are not wearing dentures, we will create a temporary one. You will use this temporary appliance until your implant supported denture is finished.Â
With the use of this temporary denture, we can also confirm the ideal position for artificial crowns in your final denture according to your bite alignment. We can even use this temporary denture as a guide to direct the implants in their correct positions.Â
For the placement of the implants, we first administer a local anesthetic to numb the immediate area. Then, we create a small incision and proceed to surgically place the tiny titanium posts into your jawbone. We then close the site with sutures.Â
The patient team at 815 Dental Studio will need to wait a few months to allow the jawbone and the implants to integrate or fuse and bond together, depending on the specific location in the jaw.Â
X-rays will confirm that your implants have become fused with the bone, and then a second, simple surgery is scheduled. A small incision will be made to expose the tops of the implants. We then attach an abutment or extension to the post, so it reaches the surface of your gum line. Allowing the soft tissue to heal, we will make a final impression of your gums and the abutments. This is the plan for the final precise locations for the denture securing framework, either bar or ball.Â
We might have some minor adjustments for either a bar-retained or a ball-retained final implant supported denture at your final fitting.
Benefits You Can Expect
There are some definitive benefits associated with implant supported dentures over traditional dentures. Here are a few to consider when deciding if this is the best solution for you.
- Implant supported dentures are significantly more stable than traditional dentures. They will not slip while speaking.
- Your natural chewing ability is restored. You will be able to both bite and eat hard foods.
- Implant supported dentures are more natural looking than traditional dentures.
- Implant supported dentures fit better and are more comfortable. There is no friction on the gums resulting in sores.
- Your jawbone density is preserved, and bone atrophy is prevented.
How Implant Supported Dentures Actually Work
There are two kinds of implant supported dentures: bar-retained and ball-retained. With both versions, the denture tray is made of an acrylic base that matches your natural gums. Porcelain or acrylic crowns, created to match your natural teeth, are attached to the base. Both versions need at least two implants for secure support.
Bar-retained dentures — A slim metal bar following the specific curve of your arch is affixed to two to five implants that have been surgically placed in your jawbone. Clips are fitted to the bar, to the denture, or both. The denture tray fits over the bar and is securely clipped into place.
Ball-retained dentures — Each implant post has a metal attachment on top that is ball shaped. These ball shaped attachments then snap directly into a nylon socket aligned perfectly on the underside of the denture.
