The Procedure for Implant Supported Dentures

We might even use a computed tomography (CT) 3D scan of your mouth. This shows us the location of your sinuses and nerves above your upper arch. A CT scan can also be done to confirm the jawbone density and mass and to pinpoint the exact locations for each implant. If you are not wearing dentures, we will create a temporary one. You will use this temporary appliance until your implant supported denture is finished.

With the use of this temporary denture, we can also confirm the ideal position for artificial crowns in your final denture according to your bite alignment. We can even use this temporary denture as a guide to direct the implants in their correct positions.

For the placement of the implants, we first administer a local anesthetic to numb the immediate area. Then, we create a small incision and proceed to surgically place the tiny titanium posts into your jawbone. We then close the site with sutures.

The patient team at 815 Dental Studio will need to wait a few months to allow the jawbone and the implants to integrate or fuse and bond together, depending on the specific location in the jaw.

X-rays will confirm that your implants have become fused with the bone, and then a second, simple surgery is scheduled. A small incision will be made to expose the tops of the implants. We then attach an abutment or extension to the post, so it reaches the surface of your gum line. Allowing the soft tissue to heal, we will make a final impression of your gums and the abutments. This is the plan for the final precise locations for the denture securing framework, either bar or ball.

Ball-retained dentures — Each implant post has a metal attachment on top that is ball shaped. These ball shaped attachments then snap directly into a nylon socket aligned perfectly on the underside of the denture.

The Aftercare of Your Implant Supported Dentures

815 Dental Studio will recommend that you remove your dentures at night for cleaning. We want you to carefully clean around the retaining attachments.

We will evaluate to confirm stability. Even though your new denture is secure, it might move slightly when you chew and therefore need minor adjustments. We will check your gums and your bite after the insertion of the denture.

The clips or attachments on your dentures will need to be replaced every 6 to 12 months. They are made of plastic or nylon and will wear with regular use.
