Tooth Extractions
815 Dental Studio

The dental industry has developed a concerted effort to help all patients retain their natural teeth. With the continued advancements in technology, there are ongoing opportunities to keep your natural teeth clean and free of bacteria and decay. Sometimes, no matter the level of effort, teeth still become damaged, and the solution must be a tooth extraction.

Your team at 815 Dental Studio may recommend a root canal procedure which keeps the outer shell of your natural tooth but removes the infected inner pulp. This treatment still saves the natural tooth visually for you. Unfortunately, an infected tooth or a severely damaged tooth may need to be extracted to maintain the health of the adjoining teeth and the jawbone.

Dr. Anthony and the entire, hand-selected team of 815 Dental Studio focus on bringing healthy and beautiful smiles to every family we get the opportunity to work with. We offer quality general family dental and cosmetic procedures services. Our staff can manage your entire family’s dental needs. We are experts in all general dental procedures, from preventative cleanings and examinations to extractions, periodontal treatments, and restorations such as crowns and fillings. We are also skilled in a large variety of cosmetic procedures such as teeth whitening, inlays, onlays, dental bonding, porcelain veneers, and other solutions to restore and maintain your healthy and natural smile.

Some Reasons for a Tooth Extraction

Wisdom Teeth- Wisdom teeth usually erupt in our late teens. At times, wisdom teeth can grow in perfectly straight, unpainful, and cause no problems. But quite often, wisdom teeth grow crooked and start pushing your other teeth, causing a misalignment with your bite. This is not ideal. 815 Dental Studio removes wisdom teeth frequently, whether they are erupted or are still impacted beneath the gum line, whether we remove them simply or surgically. It is frequently stated to have your wisdom teeth extracted before they start erupting. Even if your wisdom teeth have grown in and have created no issues, they could easily cause you trouble in the future as they are more susceptible to infection.

An Infection- At the center of every natural tooth, there is soft tissue called the pulp that is full of nerves and blood vessels connected to the tooth. If decay reaches the tooth’s pulp, the pulp becomes infected. When the pulp is infected, it causes serious toothaches and sharp pains. Your team at 815 Dental Studio can save the infected tooth by performing a root canal.

A root canal treatment is when we drill into the tooth and remove the infected pulp. Once the infected pulp is removed and the pulp chamber is clean, we fill it with a composite filling and seal it closed. There are millions of teeth saved every year from extraction with a root canal.

If a root canal will not correct the issue, then your last resort is a tooth extraction. The reason the tooth must be removed is to eliminate the pain from the infection and to also prevent the infection from entering your jawbone.

Decay or Trauma- Accidents do happen, and when it involves a tooth, the trauma can cause extreme pain. 815 Dental Studio can repair a damaged tooth by using a bonding agent to fill the cracks or fractures that were caused by the accident. The cracks must be filled to prevent any infection from starting, and to prevent decay. If a filling is not appropriate, we may choose a dental crown.

A dental crown covers the entire tooth above the gumline. Dental crowns are used often to seal a tooth following a root canal or to protect a weakened tooth. If neither option prevents the spread of infection, we will have no choice but to perform a tooth extraction.

Gum Disease- One of the primary causes of tooth loss is gum disease. This disease forces the gums to detach from the teeth because of an excessive amount of plaque build-up along or under the gum line. As the gums pull away from the teeth, sagging pockets are created, which also become infected. Your gums will become swollen, red and bleed often. If the gum disease is left untreated, the connectivity tissue holding your teeth in their sockets will lose its grip on your teeth. In progressive cases, a tooth will loosen up on its own and 815 Dental Studio might need to perform a tooth extraction.

The Tooth Extraction Procedure

A Simple Procedure- Administering a local anesthetic to numb the immediate area, 815 Dental Studio will loosen the tooth and pull it out using a hand tool called an elevator. A simple procedure is performed when the tooth that needs to be extracted has erupted above the gum line allowing complete access. We will use simple dental tools to loosen it and lift it up and out of the socket for a clean tooth extraction.

A Surgical Procedure- A surgical extraction is slightly more intensive as it requires us to cut into the gum line to retrieve the tooth. This is often necessary for an impacted wisdom tooth or if a tooth is broken below the gum line. A local anesthetic will minimize any discomfort during this type of extraction. We can also discuss a dental sedation to stymie your anxiety before and during your procedure.
